Unwind the spine - Brandi Mackenzie 3. - 5. 12. 2010

27/10/2010 12:16

Join us in this Weekend Workshop, December 3 - 5th, to truly Unwind your Spine. Each course will utilize props for supine, standing and supported inversion work. Friday and Saturday's classes will involve some invigorating, static movement, while also incorporating dynamic, passive work of SATYA technique. Sunday will be taught completely in SATYA method. Each class is appropriate for beginner students, advanced students, and students with limitations. One must be able to lay flat on the back as well as on the sides, as the SATYA method is done entirely from this positioning. If you have specific injuries, please email Brandi (at) BeBeingBecome.com for more information or inquiry.

program:

Friday December 3th 6:00 - 8:30 pm: Releasing the Cranial Base, Neck and Jaw

In yoga, we commonly hear the expression to relax the jaw. But, why? The jaw can be defined as the strongest muscle in the body. The jaw is constantly working; we use it to eat, to speak, to tear open a package, to chew our nails, to 'help' us lift something heavy. Think of all the ways you use your jaw! Due to it's strength and density, when it works, it typically works hard. However, even when it is not in motion, many of us clench the jaw, creating tension there and in the surrounding tissues. In this workshop, we will explore awareness of the jaw and tongue and how that responds through the base of the head and neck. Using both subtle and deep technique, we will work toward unwinding the tissues as they extend from the neck, upward in to the face, jaw, base of the skull and scalp.

Saturday 9:00 - 12:00am: Create Space through Low Back and Hips

Low back pain is a common factor in many people's lives. Due to our culture of sitting, we have different levels of compression in the low back compared to days past. It can also be noted that tightness in the feet and legs typically contributes shows up in the low spine. Conjunctively, many people have less-than-desirable support of the low back from the belly. Working from the feet to pelvis, we will create space through bound tissues, mobilizing the low back/pelvic junction, while at the same time, learning to engage and support the lower abdominal from the inside, out. This workshop is great for any athlete (specifically runners/cyclists), anyone who sits at a desk or wears high heels! Your back will thank you.

Saturday 15:00 - 17:30: Unleash Upper Back Neck and Shoulders

Where do you feel most fatigued in the spine? Where do you slump when tired? Likely the upper back. This group of muscles tends to overwork in our daily range of movement and thus create stress on the vertibrae of this region. Learn how to release the exhausted upper body, finding proper alignment to reduce strain and unnecessary stress. Create expansion through the chest, front and back shoulder and thoracic spine, while unwinding the neck. Unleash the tension that life creates; find new awareness and openness; relieve the body and restore the mind.

Sunday 9:00 - 12:00: Unwind the Spine with SATYA technique: Sensory Awareness Training for Yoga Attunement ®

Experience this subtle release method, which utilizes supine and side lying work to untangle habitual patterns within the body. This method encourages delicate movement, beginning from the spine, to gain access in the depths of the body's tissue... without feeling as though it is a 'deep stretch.' The foundation behind this technique is to release forms of trauma that have become lodged in the physical body, guiding with the breath. Allowing oneself to become more attuned with our internal senses, the body is more capable of letting go. Once completed, the body feels more balanced, more fluid and typically on

e feels an overall sense of relief.

About the teacher: Brandi Mackenzie believes in the power of healing through movement. Her teaching method emphasizes creating awareness though the body, both physical and subtle.
