akasha (or Akash, Aakaashá, Ākāśa, आकाश) means ether in Sanskrit. In some contexts it also denotes light and space. akasha is the subtlest of the five elements, expanding in all directions and containing the four other elements: air, fire, water and earth. akasha can not be bound within three dimensions. It is beyond limitations of time and space. akasha is the repository of endless possibilities and potential for material and spiritual evolution.
